I'd just be happy if it doesn't tank again after earnings tomorrow. Don't think $172.50 is in the cards anytime soon - I'd be doing cartwheels to see it in the $140s/$150s again before end of '22.

What I like about small caps is that your money is spread around much better, 1500 stocks vs 500. The top 10 stocks in this index only make up 4.6% of the whole. The S&P 500 index is dominated by a few companies and the top 10 stocks equal 26% of the total.

For those complaining about performance in relation to the index pull up comparison charts of this fund and IWM the ETF they are exactly the same. If you want a more pure Russell 2000 index fund buy the Schwab fund it is tiny in comparison and does buy all 2000 stocks.

As for valuation the portfolio is selling at 2X book and just over 1X sales so it is hardly over valued. Still down 11% ytd.

What is wrong with this?! Down 0.09% today (2 Jan 2019) while the Russell 2000 is up 0.54%?!!!

VSMAX continues to significantly under perform the Russell 2000. WHY? This is supposed to be a small cap fund. I know they abandoned the Russell 2000 index as point of comparisons in their documents, coming up with some unknown small cap index to do comps (which obviously under performs the Russell 2000).

Great small cap blend to tilt in your portfolio! Definitely a long term hold.

Why does this fund not come close to the Russell 2000? Today fund was up 2.06% but R2K was up 2.31%!

I have VSMAX and VEXMX together for decades. I love small caps and mids even though they overlap some.
