how is it that VWIAX lost more yesterday than VBIAX and VWENX, both of which have more stocks and less bonds? Something is wrong here?

it's a distribution you geniuses. they do this most years late December. it's not a real price drop.

Patrick posted earlier his concern about VWIAX but it disappeard so I'll just post my response here: Define safe Patrick. S&P and DOW are both down 30% YTD. VWIAX is down 12% YTD. Today was ex-DIV day so you will get a distribution tomorrow. I say a drop that is only 1/3 of the indexes is pretty safe. Bonds and stocks usually perform in opposition of each other and in 2008 VWIAX did very well. This is not a normal time. Panic has set in like no other time in market history. If you can't stand it, sell and stay in cash for a while. If you have longer than 5 years’ time before you need the money then stay put. It will be fine. VWIAX is an amazing fund with a much disciplined system of management. Trust the professionals.

I bought shares for my daughter today. I have been waiting for dips. This is the best safe long term balance fund I think she should have. I have around 250k in this fund for the last 25 years at
least and very happy. Buy and hold!!

I just talked to Vanguard and this is a reporting error. It should be fixed by tomorrow at the latest. Whew!

VWINX is up 14% this year. I think it is because of the bubble in the bond market. Is it still safe to buy VWINX considering the bond bubble that may burst soon. I have always think of VWINX is the safest fund I have ever seen. -10% in 2008. I want to park money in VWINX waiting for a market crash then buy other mutual funds.

VBIAX (Balanced Index) is down 30.98% today and also Wellesley (VWINX) down 56.06%. I hope it is just an error on Vanguards part. Sometimes I don't trust some of the things at Vanguard. TLB. Bobbie says it is their error. I hope so.

I have owned this Fund for around 30 years because of it's low volatility. I have around $250k and very happy with the return and I can always sleep at night.
