48-story tower plan includes giant dome and pool on top (Images)

Seattle high-rise developers are engaged in a design competition you could call Top This, and the latest entry looks like the winner. Vancouver, British Columbia-based Westbank is proposing a 500-foot tall mixed-use tower crowned by a spectacular geodesic dome and a swimming pool that cantilevers over the tower proposed for 2000 Third Ave. A surface parking lot currently occupies the nearly half-acre site just north across Virginia Street from a Bed Bath & Beyond store. Designed by James KM Cheng Architects of Vancouver with Seattle firm MG2 as the architect of record, the tower will have a podium consisting of retail space with high ceilings at the base and six floors of office space.
