WD-40 Co. shares fell 4.9% in the extended session Thursday after the company reported widening losses and shrinking revenue. WD-40 reported first-quarter net income of $12.2 million, or 88 cents a share, compared with $13.3 million, or 95 cents a share, in the year-ago period. Revenue fell to $98.6 million from $101.2 million in the year-ago period. FactSet does not poll enough analysts for reliable consensus estimates. "If you follow us quarter to quarter, you may not like our results this quarter," WD-40 Chief Executive Garry Ridge said in a statement. "Our business is one in which fluctuations in the performance of our markets from quarter to quarter are not unusual. That's why we don't issue quarterly guidance and why we frequently caution investors not to follow us too closely quarter to quarter. We are playing the infinite game which is why it's more important for investors to understand that our long-term strategic drivers are performing in-line with our expectations, than it is for them to be concerned about the performance of a particular market or segment in a finite period." WD-40 stcok has gained 4.3% in the past year, as the S&P 500 index rose 26%.
