Employees at the bank have filed union elections with the National Labor Relations Board for two of its branches, which could make it one of very few U.S. banks to do so. Employees at Wells Fargo branches in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Bethel, Alaska, have enlisted the Communications Workers of America to help with their unionization efforts.
The finance industry historically hasn't been unionized. A group of Wells Fargo employees want to change that. Branch workers in Albuquerque, N.M., and Bethel, Alaska, on Monday [filed petitions with the National Labor Relations Board](https://www.wsj.com/finance/banking/two-wells-fargo-branches-vote-to-form-union-0595107c?mod=hp_lead_pos10) to vote on whether to unionize their respective locations.
Workers at two Wells Fargo bank branches launched unionization efforts Monday, shifting the attention of the resurgent labor movement to an industry that has historically been cool to it. Employees in Albuquerque, N.M., and Bethel, Alaska, notified the National Labor Relations Board that they plan to hold elections to decide whether to unionize. Labor organizers and unions have scored big victories lately.
In a petition to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), bankers and tellers at Wells Fargo branches in Albuquerque, New Mexico and Bethel, Alaska declared their intent to join the Communications Workers of America's Wells Fargo Workers United (WFWU). "While we are the first Wells Fargo workers to file for union elections, we will not be the last," said Sabrina Perez, a senior premier banker at Wells Fargo's Albuquerque branch.

Regulators were focused on the bank's consumer-watching systems broadly, not any specific client or event, the report said. Wells Fargo declined to respond to Reuters request for comment. U.S. regulators are pushing Wells Fargo to improve its monitoring system to detect criminal activity at the bank, the Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday, citing people with knowledge of the matter.
