    Global Stocks Pare Gains as Investors Remain Cautious

    Global stocks pared their gains Monday as investors remained cautious despite IBM's $34 billion deal to purchase Red Hat Inc and Standard & Poor's decision to keep Italy's credit rating unchanged. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 133.78 points, or 0.54 percent, to 24,822.09, the S&P 500 gained 19.91 points, or 0.75 percent, to 2,678.6 and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 0.56 points, or 0.01 percent, to 7,166.65. The Dow had been up by more than 200 points shortly after the opening of trade.

    Why 4% Growth May Weigh on Stocks: Jim Paulsen

    On Wednesday, the White House announced that the U.S. economy grew at a revised 4.2% annual rate in the second quarter, coming in above expectations and the initial report from last month. If the domestic economy manages to keep up its nearly 4% growth rate for the rest of 2018, Paulsen thinks that it will send annual inflation, wages and the 10-year yield all above 3%. "You got to remember, the stock market collapsed in February because of a hot wage number and overheat concerns, not because of trade.
