    During a visit to Paris Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has met with the heads of French oil company Total (TOTF.PA) and defence contractor Thales (TCFP.PA), his office said in a statement on Thursday. The statement said that in the meeting with Total Chief Executive Patrick Pouyanné, "expressed his desire to expand oil and gas investments in Iraq", adding that Total wanted to deal with the federal government.

    Thales says in constructive talks on Airbus services drive

    French aerospace supplier Thales said on Wednesday it was in "constructive" talks with Airbus about the latter's bid to boost its services business, striking a conciliatory tone on an issue worrying several top suppliers. "Airbus has expressed its willingness to be more present in the services area. Boeing have also said they wanted to share the services business," Thales Chief Executive Patrice Caine said in a half-yearly results conference call.

"The Ministry of Defence is hosting the seminar right after MAST closes," said one of the sources with knowledge of the plan.

    Thales Q1 sales up 11.9 pct, reaffirms financial targets

    France's Thales on Wednesday posted an 11.9 percent rise in first-quarter revenues compared with the same period a year ago, led by its aerospace division and reaffirmed its 2017 and medium-term financial targets. Quarterly sales rose 11 percent on an underlying basis to 3.058 billion euros ($3.34 billion), while the intake of fresh orders fell 1 percent, or 2 percent on an underlying basis, to 2.281 billion euros. Underlying sales growth excludes the impact of any changes in corporate structure and exchange rates.

    The head of Dassault Aviation , the biggest shareholder in Thales, said he was not in favour of pursuing a joint venture in railway operations between the French defence electronics firm and transport group Alstom. Analysts have suggested Thales could be a possible partner for Alstom at a time when rivals Siemens and Bombardier are eyeing a potential tie-up of their rail operations, according to sources close to the matter. Eric Trappier, chief executive of Dassault Aviation, told Reuters that he was "not at all" in favour of a similar joint venture between Alstom and Thales, which is specialised in rail signalling rather than in train parts.

    U.S. blockchain startup Chain Inc has teamed with security firm Thales Group to make it easier for large companies that use blockchain technology to safely store their security credentials, the two companies said on Thursday. Adoption of blockchain technology, which is still in its early days, has been in part slowed down on concerns over security. A new service from Chain uses Thales's hardware security modules (HSM) - highly secure processors designed to safeguard passwords and "digital keys" - to make it more attractive for large companies to adopt blockchain, the companies said in a joint statement.
