Avid Hotels, a franchise brand launched by Intercontinental Hotels Group in 2017, could open its first location in South Florida with a development in Dania Beach. On Feb. 26, the City Commission will consider the site plan and variance application by Dania Resorts LLC, managed by Rahil Sanghvi, for the 1.67-acre site at 3001 S.W. 26th Terrace. “The upscale nature of the hotel, in conjunction with the ideal location, will attract business travelers and tourists to the city,” Dania Resorts LLC stated in the application.

Holiday Inn-owner InterContinental Hotels Group on Tuesday shrugged off “gilets jaunes” protests weighing on Paris demand, as it cheered bumper sales growth in London. The FTSE 100 hotelier gave the Europe update as it posted a 12% rise in full-year group sales to $1.9 billion (£1.5 billion). Edgecliffe-Johnson was more upbeat as he revealed London revenue per room jumped 10% in the fourth quarter, and was up 3% for the whole of 2018.

The Denham, UK-based owner of brands such as Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn and InterContinental said revenue per available room grew 2.5 percent in the twelve months to Dec. 31, slightly lower than the 2.7 percent growth reported a year earlier. "While there are macroeconomic and geopolitical uncertainties in some markets, we are confident in the year ahead...," Chief Executive Officer Keith Barr said in a statement. Barr has steered IHG towards affluent Chinese customers to lessen the firm's dependence on highly mature U.S. markets, while aggressively rebranding to compete against the likes of Marriott and Hilton, which have sprawling luxury portfolios, including the Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis, Waldorf Astoria and DoubleTree.
