Sony's PSVR still going strong as sales hit 3 million

Sony announced that it has sold 3 million PlayStation VR (PSVR) headsets as of the end of July, showing that its popularity has declined little since the fall 2016 launch. At the end of 2017, Sony had sold 2 million units, meaning it has sold another million in just the last eight months. On top of that, it has shipped 21.9 million PSVR games and experiences, an impressive figure considering some negative press around virtual reality of late.

Independent labels urge EU to block Sony's $2.3 billion bid for EMI

Independent music labels group Impala has called on EU antitrust regulators to block Sony Corp's bid to become the world's largest music publisher with its $2.3 billion offer for control of EMI, saying the combination would have too much market power. Sony announced the deal in May, the boldest strategy move by its new CEO Kenichiro Yoshida, which would give it rights to 2.1 million songs from artists such as Drake, Sam Smith, Pharrell Williams and Sia. Last month, it acquired the estate of Michael Jackson's minority share of EMI.

Sony's New Super-Fast Cameras are Winning Over the Pros

"In the past, these images would have been made by pre-focusing and praying for the best," said Kenneth Jarecke, who made his name shooting photos during the Gulf War. Jarecke is an early adopter of a new breed of mirrorless cameras made by Sony Corp. that excel at capturing crisp shots of fast-moving objects. Unlike digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) cameras, his Sony Alpha a7R III ditches the mirror-and-prism system that shows what's coming through the lens.

Why GoPro Is Introducing Cheaper Cameras

GoPro (GPRO) is planning to launch three new cheaper cameras for the holiday season, which is usually its strongest period of the year. The company has been selling a low-priced camera model since early this year, and it hasn’t seen cheaper cameras turn customers away from its premium products, so it’s confident in releasing these lower-cost cameras. GoPro CEO Nicholas Woodman has said that there is strong demand for GoPro products at the right price.

Sony's 10" Digital Paper Tablet is an ultra-light reading companion that needs to do more

Last year I had a good time comparing Sony's DPT-RP1 with the home-grown reMarkable. Sony's e-paper tablets are single-minded little gadgets: all they do is let you read and lightly mark up PDFs. For legal documents and scientific journal articles, which I read a lot of, a big e-paper tablet is fantastic.
