Alphabet is Yahoo Finance Plus’ investment idea of the day

Yahoo Finance’s Jared Blikre reports details on Yahoo Finance’s Investment idea of the day.

Video Transcript

KRISTIN MYERS: All right, so Jared, in the last hour, we heard from our tech editor Dan Howley talking about how Google is expected to be served with some anti-trust lawsuits. So then tell us about why Alphabet is Yahoo Finance Plus's Investment of the Day.

JARED BLIKRE: Well, these comments are coming from Argus Research. So let's get to the YFi Interactive. And we'll pull up a chart here. First, this is going to be, I believe, a year to date view of Alphabet. And check that out. That's from the lower left to the upper right. That is a nice looking up trend, up 40% during that time frame. So here's what Argus Research is saying about the latest antitrust actions here. They're maintaining their long-term price target of 2,800. That looks to be about 10 or 15 points above the current price.

And they're maintaining their buy amid these antitrust concerns. They're saying these concerns exist both in the US and Europe. US Congress is announcing new antitrust legislation. By the way, we've got an update. There's a delay on that, so that's going to take a while. And the EU, another probe. So Alphabet settled a case in France. This may become a global template for at least one aspect of its antitrust troubles concerning adtech.

So they go further. They say their 2021 gap EPS estimate, $86.11. 2022 forecast, 97.42. Alphabet, they point out, does not issue guidance-- kind of a black book when you look at their financial statements. But their estimates imply 30% EPS growth on average over the next two years. So their long-term earnings growth rate forecast is 17%. So put it all together, still liking Alphabet for Yahoo Finance Plus.
