Colbert praises students seeking gun control legislation in wake of Parkland shooting

Stephen Colbert took a moment on The Late Show to praise the students of Parkland, Florida for calling out officials who have done nothing to curb the outbreak of mass shootings. After berading conservative lawmakers, Colbert said, "There is one group that does give me hope that we can do something to protect the children and, sadly, it's the children." Survivors from the Parkland high school shooting have been pleading to officials for stricter gun laws. They've made appearances at capitol buildings as well as on the news. Colbert said, "It's more than just words. These kids are taking action, organizing a series of school walkouts across the country and a March in Washington. These kids are inspiring." Even though officials have yet to pass gun legislation or mental health legislation, Colbert pointed out there is hope for the future. He said, "I hope these kids don't give up, because this is their lives and their future. Someone else may be in power, but this country belongs to them. And there is reason for hope."
