Home Security Camera Captures Moment School Bus Flips Over in Ohio

Thirteen children in Ohio escaped largely unscathed on February 3, when their school bus hit a ditch and flipped on its side. Two of the children had minor injuries, police said, and the dramatic crash was captured on a home security camera.

Dan Cotton was at home in Hamersville when the bus flipped right outside his door. His home security camera captured the dramatic moment of the crash. The video then shows Cotton and his daughter emerge from the house, and the children coming out of the bus, which is seen resting on its side.

Cotton recorded further video of the scene on his phone.

The driver, Cotton said, “went off the road and the tire went into a ditch just off camera. She over corrected and then that’s when it comes into our cameras view and flipped on the opposite site of the road.”

Cotton and his family helped the kids, giving them blankets and seats while they waited for emergency services and their parents to arrive.

Local12.com quoted the Ohio State Highway Patrol, who said the bus driver, Stephanie Burns, 32, of the Western Brown School district, was cited over the incident for not being in reasonable control of the vehicle. Credit: Dan Cotton via Storyful
