Jimmy Fallon responds to Trump’s Twitter attack with a donation to RAICES

On The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the late night host responded to Donald Trump’s Sunday night tweet attacking Fallon over his apology for that famous hair tussle when Trump was a guest on his show in September of 2016. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Fallon talked about the backlash he got from fellow comedians and fans alike for “normalizing” the then candidate who had angered many Americans with his divisive language.

“I did not do it to 'normalize' him or to say I believe in his political beliefs or any of that stuff,” Fallon told THR. Fallon later added, “I'm sorry. I don't want to make anyone angry — I never do and I never will. It's all in the fun of the show. I made a mistake. I'm sorry if I made anyone mad. And, looking back, I would do it differently."

When Fallon learned he’d been attacked by the president, naturally, he had some questions. “When I saw that Trump insulted me on Twitter, I was gonna tweet back immediately,” Fallon said, “but I thought, ‘I have more important things to do.’ Then I thought, ‘Wait – shouldn’t HE have more important things to do?’ He’s the president! What are you doing? Why are you tweeting at me?!”

Fallon is just the latest in a long line of public figures to draw the ire of the president, which he noted saying, “It’s pretty much the only thing I have in common with NFL players.” Fallon’s only direct response to Trump was to make a donation in the president’s name to the Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services, otherwise known as RAICES.
