“Oh damn. They didn’t tell me that was up for action.” “Obviously some people just have too much money.” Christie’s auction house sells a Leonardo da Vinci painting of Christ for a jaw-dropping $450 million. Yahoo Newsroom readers give their strong opinions on the record-breaking bid.
The da Vinci painting titled “Salvator Mundi,” Italian for “Savior of the World,” was sold Wednesday, breaking previous records for artwork sold at auction or privately. The piece is one of fewer than 20 paintings by da Vinci to exist and the only in private hands. It dates from around 1500 and shows Christ in a robe with one hand holding a crystal sphere and the other raised to give a blessing.
