Markets Mixed on Earnings; Banks Jump As Tech Disappoints

Markets are mixed at midday as investors hedge their bets ahead of the long weekend. Close to midday, indices reversed early losses on poor results from Google and IBM late Wednesday after good earnings from Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley – but the Dow and S&P were back in the red at noon. 25 S&P companies are due to report Thursday. Investors are also watching developments in eastern Ukraine with international diplomats to meeting in Geneva to discuss the crisis. Fewer Americans than expected filed applications for jobless benefits last week. Jane Searle reports.
