Yahoo Finance Live celebrates National Superhero Day by looking at the future blockbuster superhero movies announced at CinemaCon 2022.

Video Transcript

RACHELLE AKUFFO: Welcome back, everyone. Happy National Superhero Day. Now all superhero fans are celebrating some big announcements coming out of CinemaCon 2022. You have a number of blockbuster superhero movies coming on tap. You have "Batman 2" starring Robert Pattinson, "Doctor Strange 2" with Benedict Cumberbatch, Dwayne Johnson making his big debut as Black Adam, you have Sony announcing the third installment of its "Venom" series, which I love, plus not one but two Spider-Man sequels.

You have Warner Brothers also unveiling trailers for "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" and "Shazam Fury of the Gods", "Wakanda Forever". So many. Now my favorite, hands down, is "Storm" the Wakandan queen who's also [INAUDIBLE] favorite superhero.

BRAD SMITH: Oh my goodness. Yes. I completely forgot. Well, I didn't completely forget. But yes, storm, Halle Berry, way back in the day.

DAVE BRIGGS: No idea who storm is.

BRAD SMITH: "X-Men".

DAVE BRIGGS: No clue. Never seen it.

BRAD SMITH: Yeah.

DAVE BRIGGS: Apologies. Love me some Halle Berry. But just don't know it.

BRAD SMITH: Shame.

DAVE BRIGGS: What about you?

BRAD SMITH: Mine is actually Frozone. A very familiar voice for a lot of people out there.

DAVE BRIGGS: "The Incredibles"?

BRAD SMITH: Yes, "The Incredibles". Frozone. We need to get Frozone his own origin story movie. Number one. He is an unsung hero in every single story that plays out for "The Incredibles". It is an extremely clumsy family and he comes in and saves the day more often than not. Also, those kids are incredible. But yes, where is his super suit? Frozone is who I'm donning my favorite superhero. He needs to get his--

And look, it's a familiar voice. It's Samuel L. Jackson.

DAVE BRIGGS: No doubt. That's a great call. I'm a big Frozone fan. That's a good movie series as well. I had to go pretty traditional here. Captain America. I love Chris Evans. It's a solid All-American character. He doesn't have any amazing talents, but still somehow is in this crew of people that far exceed expectation. What is his superpower other than that he's really fast and tough?

BRAD SMITH: He's got a shield.

DAVE BRIGGS: I got to admire that. So Chris Evans is mine. I think it's fascinating that movies are all-- you listed them just now. They are all superhero movies. Go back to the beginning of '21. The top five box office, grossing movies, all superhero movies. That's why I'm bearish on movie theaters in general. And if it's not a blockbuster superhero film, people don't want to see it. How long can that trend continue? I think movie theaters long term are in trouble. Didn't mean to take this in the direction of a stock play. But how about a sock play? Captain America socks, baby.

BRAD SMITH: You see this, Rachelle?

DAVE BRIGGS: That's why I had to pick--

BRAD SMITH: This is what's popping off in studio, Rachelle.

DAVE BRIGGS: That's why I had to pick Captain America.

RACHELLE AKUFFO: We need to have a dedicated sock [INAUDIBLE] day. He literally has socks for everything.

BRAD SMITH: Everything.

RACHELLE AKUFFO: And I also want to say, so my pick is Storm. But honestly, it's the comic book version, and not even really the movie version. I feel like they don't really do her justice. She is literally one of the most powerful X-Men. I named my car after her, I scheduled all my college classes around the X-Men cartoon because it would come in at 10 o'clock. My parents would be horrified. Love it. Love.

BRAD SMITH: That's incredible.

DAVE BRIGGS: You guys, much more original picks than mine. Truth is Chris Evans follows me on Twitter. So I'm a big fan of his. That's why. That's it. That's it. All right, that'll do it for us.
