How would you like to put in a little work once and then get a steady stream of income forever after? Sound too good to be true? It's not -- this type of arrangement is called "passive income" and is actually quite common. How passive income works Passive income is money that keeps coming in without your having to do any further work. Most types of passive income require you to either make a purchase or put in some work initially, but after that, you don't have to do anything further to keep getting paid. One familiar example of passive income is royalties for authors. An author who writes a popular book may still be selling copies decades later, and receiving royalties on those sales, without

LOBNYA, Russia (AP) — "Old, fat and ugly" is what Yevgeniya Magurina jokingly calls a group of flight attendants of Russia's flagship airline Aeroflot who she claims have been sidelined in an apparent drive to make the cabin crew younger and more physically attractive. A Moscow court is due to rule on Tuesday in Magurina's lawsuit against Aeroflot in which she maintains she was taken off the sought-after long-haul international flights because of her looks. The flight attendant's claim, which triggered a wave of support as well condemnation, has put the spotlight on how women in modern Russia are still often judged by their physical appearance.

There aren’t supposed to be Nazis in the office. A human resource department in corporate America would be highly unlikely to sit back while an employee displayed swastikas on his desk or espoused ideas about racial superiority at the coffee machine. Outside of the office, however, the relationship between corporate codes of conduct and hateful politics is less straightforward. It’s not entirely clear that employees will always be fired for being an after-hours Nazi. Take the recent white-nationalists rallies in Charlottesville, Va., which featured anti-Semitic slogans, Nazi symbols, and an attack on counter-protestors that left one person dead. At least four participants in the rallies have

This represents a rare blow to Buffett, who avoids bidding wars for companies and had swooped in two months ago to buy Oncor after Texas regulators blocked two previous attempts by Energy Future to sell it. Energy Future, which has been in bankruptcy since 2014, had initially planned to seek court approval on Monday for the sale of Oncor to Berkshire for $9 billion over opposition from its biggest creditor, hedge fund Elliott Management Corp. Instead, Energy Future lawyer Chad Husnick told the court the Dallas-based company had decided to "pursue another path" with Sempra because of the value of the bid, a lower break-up fee and, most importantly, support from Elliott.

Diversified midstream oil and gas giant Kinder Morgan, Inc. (NYSE:KMI) is in the headlines today because the next few years are set to see explosive dividend growth. The hikes are so big (like the 60% increase planned for 2018) that it makes the roughly 5% annualized distribution growth at Enterprise Products Partners L.P. (NYSE:EPD) sound like chump change. Even as some analysts decry that gold is looking expensive, the rally may be just getting going. In the midst of a tumultuous month in U.S. politics and global security, traders have pushed gold futures to near a nine-month high. But if the history of gold’s relationship with oil is any guide, that surge may last longer than the flare-up in geopolitical tension. The precious metal has rallied 11 percent in 2017 to trade at $1,294.40, compared to a 10 percent slump in crude. That divergence in price may still be going, meaning gold should continue to outperform oil before the 34-month cycle ends, according to a study of past trading patterns for the two assets. “Gold has rallied during the recent
An Altice USA Inc. (ATUS) purchase of Charter Communications Inc. (CHTR) would create a broadband and pay-TV powerhouse, and satisfy Patrick Drahi's desire to expand his U.S. territories. Buying Charter would be prohibitively expensive for Altice, however. It would likely require John Malone, controls 25% of Charter through holdings in Liberty Broadband Corp. and other vehicles, to reduce his influence at the cable operator, which would be a challenge in itself. Snap Co-Founders Evan Spiegel and Bobby Murphy Have Lost Billions Since the IPO Altice has a $22 billion market cap, compared to Charter's $100 billion. Following its merger with Time Warner Cable, Charter also has more than $60 billion
