Porsche considers implementation of Google tech in cars

Yahoo Finance automotive reporter Pras Subramanian highlights Porsche's latest tech upgrades amid its rising global delivery figures.

DAVE BRIGGS: All right, Porsche also making some news, Pras, posting a 3% global increase in deliveries in year over year, and also reportedly in talks with Google. What can you tell us?

PRAS SUBRAMANIAN: Speaking of integration and technology and maybe spyware-- not spyware, but Google in talks with Porsche, right? So Porsche before, reluctant about adding Google sort of integration to their cars. They want to control that space, control that data. Companies like GM and Ford and Nissan have been using that for a while. Basically, what it means is that you'll have native kind of apps in your car without having to go into CarPlay. You can hit Google Maps, Google Assistant, things like that. So they're going to work on that potentially with Porsche there.

And, you know, like Sid mentioned, Porsche, a great year 2022, another record 30% up in sales. That's really positive stuff for them in 911 and the Tay-- I'm sorry, the Cayenne. But the Taycan, actually, the battery EV car, down 20% in the US. And Porsche is saying, not a demand problem, it's a supply chain issue. So still having supply chain issues for that car.

SEANA SMITH: How big are supply chain issues still in the auto industry today?

PRAS SUBRAMANIAN: You know, depending on the manufacturer, you hear different things. So GM, they said they're working through it. That's positive. Ford, some issues. And Porsche, they only built 39,000 ish EVs last year. That's not that much. And they're having issues even doing that. So it makes you kind of question, can these competitors actually take it to Tesla, right?
