Psy’s ‘Gangnam Style’ turns 10, remains in top 5 most-watched videos on YouTube

Yahoo Finance Live anchors discuss Psy's 'Gangam Style' remaining in YouTube's top 5 most-watched videos despite being released 10 years ago.

- Well, switching gears now, today marks the 10th anniversary of Psy's "Gangnam Style." The hit song rewrote K-pop norms and the rules of viral success. It actually remains one of YouTube's top-five most viewed music videos of all time.

AKIKO FUJITA: Still?

- Yep, 4 and 1/2 billion views on the platform. Psy commented in a statement via "Variety" that he was really honored by all of this. Quote, "being the first artist to reach 1 billion views on YouTube was an extraordinary feeling 10 years ago, and it still is today." Remember the dance?

AKIKO FUJITA: I do remember, yes.

- You know, like--

AKIKO FUJITA: Well, look, if he's in the top five, BTS has the other four? I mean, like, it just it feels like 10 years ago that was huge. And now we just see-- I mean, we see K-pop everywhere.

- Well, the momentum-- I mean, the momentum-- I mean, you showed a chart. You showed us a chart earlier today that showed, like, over the last-- what was it-- like, five years--

AKIKO FUJITA: Yeah, the export value of South Korean music-- this is from Statista-- capping it at 2019, obviously much growth since then, $756 million.

- Yeah. There's an econ story there. It's a component to GDP, right, Akiko?

AKIKO FUJITA: [LAUGHS]

- Oppa Gangnam style. Coming up on the--

AKIKO FUJITA: He's just itching to do the dance.

- I was. I really wanted to do it.

AKIKO FUJITA: You are really itching to do the dance.

- Yeah, I gotta get a full body shot.
