Retirement Home Evacuated as Intense Floods Hit Central Mississippi

More than 40 residents of a retirement home in Brandon, Mississippi, were evacuated on Wednesday, August 24, as flash flooding surrounded the building and left vehicles parked outside partially submerged, according to local media citing officials.

This footage from Jamie Grissom shows the conditions on Wednesday at the Peach Tree Village Retirement Community.

WLBT reported that 42 residents were transferred to the Rankin County Safe Room, a shelter usually used during tornadoes and hurricanes.

City officials said multiple roads in the city were impassable and that authorities were assisting drivers stranded in the floodwaters. Credit: Jamie Grissom via Storyful
