ADAM SHAPIRO: Akiko, we talked a lot about Apple and its iPhones, but what about Samsung?

AKIKO FUJITA: Yeah. Well, we just got numbers out from the research firm IDC talking about smartphone shipments in Q3, and Samsung is on top, yet again. You look at global shipments right now, that did decline 1.3% year on year. But Samsung taking the lead largely because of the decline we saw from Huawei. Shipments for Huawei were down about 22%. That is the steepest drop the company has seen in its history.

And while this is just one quarter, it is certainly important to note this decline largely because Huawei has been under intense pressure because of the restrictions the US has placed on Huawei's suppliers and their inability to sell to Huawei. Remember, the Commerce Department has essentially blocked all of US suppliers from selling chips and other components to Huawei without a special license in place.

We do-- it is important to note that "The Financial Times" yesterday reporting that the Commerce Department has started to approve the sale of components to Huawei again. So perhaps we could see some change in this recent quarter, in this current quarter.

One more thing to note, Adam, because we have been talking about Apple. Apple actually slipped to fourth in overall global shipments. They were down 10.6% year on year.
