Yahoo Finance’s Alexandra Canal joins Alexis Christoforous to break down the best holiday coffee drinks.
- Allie Canal is going to taste test some of the holiday coffee drinks from Starbucks and Dunkin' Donuts. Lots of caffeine going on there, Allie.
ALLIE CANAL: Lots of caffeine. And, you know, you think of coffee, you automatically think of Dunkin' and Starbucks. And it's the holiday season, so why not. I have my holiday Santa hat on here. And I'm going to put this to the test.
So, I got products from Dunkin' Donuts and products from Starbucks. And I wanted to try and match them up so that it was all fair. So, first things first, we have the peppermint mocha latte from Dunkin' Donuts here. Let's try this.
Whoa. It truly tastes like peppermint. Very sweet. And I'm going to immediately taste the Starbucks peppermint mocha, so that we can have a good comparison here.
Not a sweet. Richer peppermint. I'm getting a little bit of, like, a chocolatey vibe. This Starbucks is a winner for this one.
Next, we have the gingerbread latte from Dunkin' Donuts. And I'm going to versus that with the caramel brule latte from Starbucks. I was very upset because Starbucks does not have their gingerbread latte this year. Starbucks, I'm looking at you.
But let's see what we got here. Oh, this is great. This literally tastes like a Christmas cookie in a cup.
Let's see. The carmale brule. I don't like this one. I'm not into this one. I think Dunkin' Donuts wins that award.
And now, I'm very excited for the iced options. This is the sugar plum macchiato from Dunkin'. And you can see it's purple. It has some blueberry tones, some vanilla tones. Let's shake it up.
Very blueberry. If you don't like blueberries, this is not for you. And this is the iced toasted white chocolate mocha from Starbucks. Pretty whipped cream. This probably looks the best. And we'll see here.
This literally tastes like a milkshake. So, I'm going to go with Starbucks here.
So, now we have two for Starbucks, we have one for Dunkin'. But if you want to compare the price points, all of Starbucks specialty drinks were right around $5.25, not including tax. And then, if you take a look at Dunkin', these hot coffees, they were around $3.25. And then, this sugar plum macchiato was a little more expensive at $4.50.
But, overall, you got some options here. With a lot of calories, though, because this one is around 420. This one about 280.
I mean, it's the Christmas 20, Christmas 15. I don't know what to say. But all very good options.
- Don't count the calories. That's the answer. That's the short answer to that. Lots and lots [INAUDIBLE] don't finish all those. That's gonna be a caffeine rush. Allie Canal, thanks as always.
