Supreme Court: no damages for Katrina homeowners

The U.S. Supreme Court has rejected an appeal from New Orleans area homeowners who claimed the Army Corps of Engineers failed to maintain the MRGO shipping channel, which ended up making the flooding worse in St. Bernard Parish and the Lower Ninth Ward after Hurricane Katrina. The Supreme Court let a lower court ruling stand, that says the Corps does not have to pay billions of dollars in damages because federal law gives federal agencies immunity when they make certain decisions, even if those decisions wind up causing damages.
