Tennis star Roger Federer set to play final match alongside Rafael Nadal

Tennis legend Roger Federer will play the final match of his career alongside friend and rival Rafael Nadal.

Video Transcript

RACHELLE AKUFFO: Well, on to some other sports news today. Tennis star Roger Federer is playing the final match of his career today. Now the 20-time Grand Slam singles champ is playing doubles alongside friend and rival, Rafael Nadal. The match is part of the Laver Cup, which pits European players against others from around the world.

Now, Federer helped create the tournament back in 2017. I mean, this is a tough one. I absolutely adore tennis, so it's sad to see him go. But I mean, looking at his career, a billion dollars in career earnings before taxes and agent fees. That's more than twice of Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovich. But I mean, the man is a legend. This is going to be hard to say goodbye, for sure.

DAVE BRIGGS: Hard to believe he made twice as much as Serena Williams on and off the court. I think if that was today, Serena would probably make every bit as much, if not more. Really tough spot for the sport of tennis, replacing the two greatest stars of a generation. I don't know how they will do it.
