ZACK GUZMAN: And out of Washington, also want to ask you about some new controversy we're seeing out of a White House campaign urging the jobless Americans out there to find something new-- a very interesting campaign in light of everything that we've seen. What's the latest we're hearing on that?
- Yeah, this is part of the White House's American Workforce Policy Advisory Board, that board that Ivanka Trump and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross are leading. Its aim is to encourage people to get other skills and other training and not-- and have employers not really depend on that four-year college degree when they're hiring people.
Today, they did launch this campaign. And it's urging people to find something new. And today they spoke about it at an event. Apple CEO Tim Cook says it's more important than ever during this pandemic. Let's watch.
TIM COOK: At the end of the day, we believe that, with the right tools, people have the power to change their lives and the lives of their families for the better. Our campaign celebrates that idea. It would help us fight inequality of opportunity, invest in our economy and the education system, and empower more people to discover a path that leads to a productive, personally-fulfilling career.
- Now, Zack, there has been a lot of backlash. If you do a quick scroll on Twitter, you'll see it. People are calling it tone deaf. Congresswoman Jackie Speier tweeted, "Next, they'll be touting near-death weight loss from COVID-19 as a makeover." So pretty harsh words there from the congresswoman, Zack.
