Here's where F.N.B. looks to grow in 2019

The second-biggest bank headquartered in Pennsylvania expects to build on 2018's loan growth and to continue to cut expenses by branch consolidation, using a chunk of the savings to capitalize on new locations in Ohio and the Carolinas. F.N.B. Corp., based in Pittsburgh's North Side neighborhood, released fourth quarter 2018 financials on Tuesday before market open. Vincent Delie Jr., chairman, president and CEO, told analysts during F.N.B.'s (NYSE:FNB) earnings call that it would deploy some of the money saved from branch cuts last year toward adding new sites in “higher growth areas like Charleston, Charlotte and parts of Ohio.”  F.N.B., which has about 400 branches, shed 20 last year, which translates to about $3 million in savings.

Here's Why the Best Is Yet to Come for ONEOK

Barring a completely unexpected fourth-quarter collapse, 2018 will go down as one of the best in ONEOK's (NYSE: OKE) history. The pipeline company was on pace to haul in $1.86 billion of distributable cash flow at the midpoint of its guidance range, which would put it nearly 34% above 2017's level. What was impressive about ONEOK's growth last year was that the main driver was an uptick in volumes flowing through its legacy systems as drillers completed more wells in areas where ONEOK operates.

On the other hand, smaller firms, especially hot small-cap stocks, have an information “blackout.” Analyst coverage is limited, if one is even on tap. In addition, if you're not about to retire, a controlled exposure to hot small-cap stocks is prudent.

Why PetMed Express Stock Just Dropped 10%

PetMed Express (NASDAQ: PETS) stock is looking sick as a dog this morning, with shares of the online pet pharmacy down 10.2% as of noon EST after the report of fiscal Q3 2018 earnings results that fell short of expectations. Sales held firm year over year, yet PetMed said its profits declined 14%, a fact CEO Menderes Akdag blamed on a "much more competitive" market that forced PetMed to give customers "additional discounts ... to stimulate sales" -- but in which those discounts did not, in fact, result in additional sales. Arguably worse, PetMed's CEO indicated that the company will have to "continue to be aggressive with pricing and promotions" to maintain market share, and even "increase advertising to address this more competitive online market." That means that profits, down already in Q3, probably won't be recovering anytime soon.

Why General Electric Stock Dropped 5.5% This Morning

Shares of General Electric (NYSE: GE) stock plunged 5.5% in early trading Tuesday, before clawing back some of its losses to close the day down 4.6%. The reason: Doubts are emerging regarding GE's ability to sell its GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS) airplane leasing business -- or at least, its ability to sell it for enough money to make a meaningful contribution toward paying down GE's mammoth $115 billion debt load. Last week, CNBC reported that GE has been hoping to raise as much as $40 billion from a sale of GECAS, which would obviously go a long way toward restoring health to GE's balance sheet.
