Woman Has Narrow Escape After Ignoring Barriers at Dutch Level Crossing

A woman narrowly escaped being hit by a train when she ignored the lowered barriers and attempted to cross a level crossing at a station in Ermelo, Netherlands, footage posted on September 21 shows.

The Netherlands’ ProRail agency released the video as a warning against such dangerous risk taking, telling people not to do it, and also saying that “one in three” train delays are due to drivers having to slow down because of people too close to the tracks.

Train driver Jan Slaats said, “If you see someone walking on the track, it immediately triggers a startle. Some colleagues then relive a traumatic event over and over again.”

The agency said around 30 accidents every year are caused by people taking risks at crossings. Credit: ProRail via Storyful
