Cleveland casino, Ohio's 1st, gets 2.6 million visitors during initial 6 months of operation

CLEVELAND (AP) -- Operators say the first of Ohio's four new casinos has had more than 2.6 million visitors during its first six months of operation.

The Horseshoe Casino Cleveland opened in May at the old Higbee department store with the promise of a tax windfall and jobs for about 1,600 employees.

The head of the Cleveland's marketing and tourism agency says the casino developers have followed through on a promise to incorporate other city attractions and promote local tourism.

The downtown casino has nearly 90 table games, 1,900 slots and a 30-table poker room. Developers say the casino plans to add two dozen more table games.

Casinos also have opened in Toledo and Columbus. Cincinnati's casino is slated to open next spring.
