Duke Energy CEO talks about future of energy at Duke University

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) -- The head of Duke Energy Corp. is describing how he sees the changing future of the energy industry.

Duke Energy CEO Jim Rogers is a keynote speaker at a Duke University energy conference on Wednesday. Rogers says today's energy challenges are shaping how the world gets power in the future.

The CEO of a power company with 7 million customers since its takeover of Progress Energy has said electricity costs will increase as companies invest heavily in new generation and transmission.

Duke Energy is being investigated by the state Utilities Commission and attorney general over the way it handled leadership changes after the Progress Energy merger four months ago. Hours after the merger was completed, Progress chief Bill Johnson was ousted and Rogers was given the CEO job back.
