Nielsen to be replace Sprint Nextel in S&P 500

Nielsen to take over Sprint Nextel's spot in the S&P 500 index

NEW YORK (AP) -- Nielsen Holdings NV, a provider of information and insight into what global consumers watch and buy, will be added to the roster of companies in the S&P 500 index at the close of trading next Monday.

The New York-based company will take the place of Sprint Nextel Corp. The wireless service provider has agreed to sell the bulk of its business to SoftBank Corp. of Japan.

As a result, Sprint's public float is expected to fall substantially below the 50 percent public float criteria necessary for continued inclusion in the index.
