Late scratch for 2 state agencies: NY merges racing, lottery offices into Gaming Commission

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (AP) -- The state agencies in charge of regulating New York's horse racing industry and running its lotteries are now merged into one department.

The merger of the Racing and Wagering Board and the New York Lottery into the New York State Gaming Commission becomes effective Friday.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo proposed the merger a year ago as part of his state budget plan.

The New York Lottery continues to have its own website at www.nylottery.ny.gov.
