Canon to expand Virginia manufacturing operations

Canon investing $27 million to expand Va operations in Newport News to make copy machine toner

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Canon Inc. is expanding its operations in Newport News to make toner for copy machines.

Gov. Bob McDonnell said Thursday that Canon Virginia Inc. plans to invest $27 million to expand its operations.

Officials say the expansion is a result of a meeting with Canon in Tokyo during McDonnell's recent Asia trade mission.

Canon Virginia's operation in Newport News employs nearly 2,000 people. The Virginia campus serves as the manufacturing support center for Canon U.S.A.

McDonnell approved a $3 million performance-based grant from the Virginia Investment Partnership program for the project.
