JetBlue announces Worcester-to-Florida service
JetBlue announces new service from Worcester, Mass. to Florida, starting in November
WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) -- JetBlue Airways Corp. and Massachusetts officials have announced that the airline will begin daily flights between little-used Worcester Regional Airport and Florida starting in November.
The airport has not had commercial passenger service since Direct Air filed for bankruptcy last year.
The Massachusetts Port Authority, which owns the airport, has been actively pursuing New York-based JetBlue Airways Corp.
JetBlue will offer two daily flights from Worcester, one to Orlando and one to Ft. Lauderdale, starting Nov. 7 on a 100-seat aircraft.
Massport is giving JetBlue a $275,000 break on airport fees and charges for two years, and $150,000 worth of free marketing.
Gov. Deval Patrick said at a Wednesday news conference that airports and airlines grow jobs and spur economic opportunity.
JetBlue CEO Dave Barger praised "the enthusiasm of the Worcester community."
