Newly formed Civitas Media appoints first CFO

Jeff Sherman is appointed chief financial officer of newly formed Civitas Media group

DAVIDSON, N.C. (AP) -- Jeff D. Sherman is the new chief financial officer of the recently formed Civitas Media.

Sherman was appointed as the company's first CFO by Civitas CEO and President Michael C. Bush.

Sherman served previously as Senior Vice President of Finance for North Carolina-based grocery store chain Harris Teeter.

Bush calls Sherman a detail-oriented professional who understands the importance of great customer service. He said Civitas Media is pleased to have someone with Sherman's financial acumen, and he added that Sherman will play a key role in transforming the local community information business.

Civitas employs 1,650 people across 12 states in the Midwest, Mid-Atlantic and South. The company has five North Carolina newspapers including The Sampson Independent, The Laurinburg Exchange, The Robesonian, Mount Airy News and Daily Journal in Rockingham.
