Acuity Brands’ price movement

Acuity Brands (AYI) has a market cap of $7.8 billion. Acuity’s YTD (year-to-date) price movement was going up until August 2015, but since then, has been falling. After the 4Q15 earnings report, AYI rose by 3.7% to close at $182.88 per share as of October 7, 2015, with an increase in revenue of 11.1%. Price movement on weekly, monthly and YTD bases is 4.2%, -9.4%, and 30.9%, respectively. It’s trading at 4.3% on a trailing-five-day basis.

Technically, in 2015, it broke support of 20-day, 50-day, and 200-day moving averages. Currently, it’s trading at -0.7% below the 20-day moving average, -5.8% below the 50-day moving average, and 4.9% above the 200-day moving average.

The First Trust RBA American Industrial Renaissance ETF (AIRR) invests 3.3% of its holdings in Acuity. The ETF tracks a multifactor-selected and proprietary-weighted index of industrial service and support firms and community banks that could benefit from a potential industrial revival in the United States. The YTD price movement of AIRR is -12.3% as of October 6, 2015. The First Trust Materials AlphaDEX ETF (FXZ) invests 2.9% of its holdings in Acuity.

Acuity’s performance in 4Q15 and fiscal 2015

Acuity reported net revenue of $7.6 billion in 4Q15, an increase of 11.1% from $6.8 billion in 3Q15. Net income and EPS (earnings per share) fell to $60.1 million and $1.38 per share in 4Q15, a decrease of 6.82% and 6.75% on a quarterly basis.

In fiscal 2015, net revenue was $2.7 billion, a rise of 13.1% from $2.4 billion in fiscal 2014. Cost of products sold as a percentage of sales fell by 1.9% in fiscal 2015. Gross profit and EPS (earnings per share) rose to $1.1 billion and $5.09 per share in fiscal 2015, an increase of 17% and 25.7% on a yearly basis. Cash and cash equivalents and current ratio rose by 37% and 9.1% in fiscal 2015. Debt-to-equity ratio fell to 25.9 in fiscal 2015 from 30.2 in fiscal 2014.
