Amazon will buy math program maker TenMarks

Amazon will buy TenMarks, which makes online math programs for students; terms not disclosed

SEATTLE (AP) -- Amazon.com said Thursday it agreed to buy TenMarks, which makes develops personalized online math programs for students in kindergarten through 12th grade.

Amazon said TenMarks offers math instruction and practice with hints, video lessons, and results that are delivered in real time. The company did not disclose terms and said the deal should close before the end of 2013.

Shares of Amazon.com Inc. rose $6.94, or 2.3 percent, to $305.17 Thursday as the broader markets traded higher on hopes that the U.S. government is approaching a deal to avoid a default on its debt. Amazon shares gave back 17 cents to $305 in aftermarket trading.
