Some songs just never get old. On Sunday night, there was not a dry eye in the house when Celine Dion performed “My Heart Will Go On” at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards. Dion, in an otherworldy white dress, sung the song as footage from Titanic played in the background. Twenty years later, and it still breaks our hearts. Even the singer herself looked like she was trying to hold back tears, moved by her own performance of the song as Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet kissed in the clips playing behind her. Jeez, Billboard Music Award producers, you really know how to lay it on. The song is actually personal for Dion, who initially didn’t want to sing “My Heart Will Go On” for Titanic, but her late husband Rene Angélil convinced her to do it, forever changing pop culture history.

Celine Dion’s performance of “My Heart Will Go On” had people in tears.

Dion told Billboard over the weekend that she was honored to perform the song.

“It’s still number one!,” she joked. “My husband always told me that I wanted to have a career as long as I sing my whole life. Twenty years later, I’m at the Billboard Awards and I was here last year singing ‘The Show Must Go On,’ receiving the Icon award — my son gave it to me, and it was pretty emotional. To be here [in T-Mobile Arena], it’s still emotional, because I can still feel and see what happened last year.”

Later in the evening, Dion had another, unofficial performance. Cher, who accepted the Icon Award this year, performed two of her hits, Believe and If I Could Turn Back Time. caught on camera singing along Dion watched the performance backstage and was with the 71-year-old icon. It was pretty adorable.

Between her performance and her backstage moves, we’ll always have a soft spot in our hearts for Celine Dion.
