CoxHealth Embraces the New IP by Building a Brocade-Based Network

Brocade Delivers Patient-Centered Network to Support Healthcare System's Present and Future Business Needs

SAN JOSE, CA--(Marketwired - Apr 13, 2015) - Brocade (NASDAQ: BRCD) today announced that CoxHealth, one of U.S. News' Best Regional Hospitals, has selected Brocade® networking equipment and services to provide its five hospitals and 83 clinics with a highly reliable IT network infrastructure that improves patient care -- today, and into the era of the New IP.

With the goal of shifting from a flat, unreliable Layer 2 network built on disparate vendor solutions, the Springfield, Missouri-based healthcare provider required a networking solution that could be deployed across the Wide Area Network (WAN). This meant a solution spanning from the core, aggregation, and edge layers all the way to the Storage Area Network (SAN) in the data center, with simplified management throughout. CoxHealth selected Brocade technologies to fulfill each of these needs, also citing outstanding customer service and cost-savings opportunities as influential in the decision.

CoxHealth selected Brocade largely because of a desire to have a more agile, Software-Defined Networking (SDN)-ready New IP network to improve mobile data access to clinical applications, imaging, voice, video, and business intelligence platforms. The network must comprehensively support the healthcare system's vision of efficiently serving more than one million patient visits each year, across the clinics and the emergency departments.

With help from Brocade, the CoxHealth IT team has increased network availability from two-nines to four-nines of uptime, greatly reducing disruptions. Users now experience faster access to their Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) -- a medical imaging technology where image loading times are down from 40 seconds to just two seconds. CoxHealth has also successfully integrated a third-party wireless LAN to deliver a consistent user experience everywhere in the system.

CoxHealth leverages Brocade ICX® Switches for both aggregation and network access, Brocade MLX® Routers for carrier-class core routing, a Brocade DCX® Backbone for the SAN, and Brocade VDX® Switches in the development and lab testing network. CoxHealth also leverages Brocade Network Advisor to provide a single pane of glass to manage and support the entire Brocade IP and SAN portfolio, for unified network visibility and control.

"As we move forward, we know our network will give us the high resiliency, exceptional performance, and agility that we need to provide our physicians, staff, and patients with extraordinary levels of service," said Dan Brewer, Senior Manager for IT, CoxHealth. "Brocade offers the high-quality support, equipment longevity, and affordable pricing that lets us satisfy our users and continually leave a good impression."

Brocade is exhibiting at HIMSS 2015 in Chicago, IL at McCormick Place April 12-16.
