Itron (ITRI) Introduces RIVA Developers Community for IoT - Analyst Blog
The provider of integrated system solutions, Itron, Inc. ITRI has launched the Itron Riva Developers Community, encouraging engineers, developers and manufacturers to participate in creating applications for its Itron Riva platform.
Itron Riva platform is the first-of-its-kind distributed intelligence platform that supports sensing technologies and dynamic applications at the device level. The platform shares a common set of technology attributes, such as locational awareness; multilingual devices; and in-field and cloud-based processing to enable touch-free, localized analysis.
The Itron Riva Developers Community will speed up the application development process for the platform, hence allowing for an ecosystem of Internet of Things (IoT). The IoT concept foresees billions of connected devices and systems with applications ranging from sensors and mobile devices to home appliances and cars.
According to latest market research of International Data Corporation (IDC), the IoT market is poised to increase to $7.1 trillion by 2020 from $1.9 trillion in 2013. Lately, Itron has been showing increasing interest in the space.
Itron is backing the Developers Community to utilize the potential in IoT. The Community is dedicated to developers interested in prototyping and developing hardware and software for the IoT applications.
The applications will run on interconnected devices, including parking meters, appliances, streetlights, sensors and more. The applications will cover various IoT verticals, such as energy and water management, building energy management, smart street lighting and solar monitoring.
The developers will be able to access app development tools, including Itron Riva Development Kits available for purchase on the itronriva.com site. The kit includes boards and tools for cloud-based analytics and visualization of sensor and network health data. It is interoperable with WiFi, Ethernet, power line carrier (PLC) and IPv6 communications.
Itron has an extensive portfolio that can grow organically and through value added acquisitions and product introduction to offer more innovation to customers. In 2014, the company launched OpenWay Riva platform with adapted communication technology. The company also released new software analytics and unveiled the Itron Total Managed Services Offering.
In Jan 2015, Itron announced a new 4G LTE smart metering solution, the latest technology in Itron’s cellular portfolio and at DistribuTech. Itron’s latest addition in the new static flow meter for thermal energy commercial and industrial (C&I) applications will help utilities better manage their systems and protect revenue.
Liberty Lake, WA-based Itron , along with its subsidiaries, is one of the principal technology providers to energy and water industries worldwide. It produces electricity, gas, water and heat meters, data collection and utility software solutions as well as various other associated metering products. The company provides its services to residential, commercial and industrial customers, along with transmission and distribution customers.
