Jury Finds DuPont Responsible For Employee's Testicular Cancer

Referring to a E I Du Pont De Nemours And Co (NYSE: DD) spokesman, Reuters reported the Ohio Federal Court has ordered DuPont to pay $5.1 million in compensatory damages to David Freeman.

Freeman claims to have developed testicular cancer from exposure to a toxic chemical used to make Teflon at one of its plants.

The company is facing more than 3,440 lawsuits from people claiming they contracted one of six diseases linked to perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA or C-8), which is used to make products such as Teflon non-stick cookware.

Although Dupont appears as a defendant in the court, the liabilities will be covered by Chemours Co (NYSE: CC), its chemicals segment spinoff.

Unlike Dupont's representative, who refused to make any comments, Cynthia Salitsky, the spokesman of Chemours, announced that the verdict will be appealed. "Chemours retains its defenses to such claims," Salitsky stated.
