Lexia Reading Core5 Presented with 2014-2015 eSchool News Readers` Choice Award
Rosetta Stone company`s technology-based reading program continues to gain recognition for innovation

BOSTON -Aug. 1, 2014 - For the third time in just the past four months, the Lexia Reading® Core5®pre-K-5 reading program has been honored, this time receiving the coveted eSchool News 2014-2015 Reader`s Choice Award. This annual program honors 50 of the best programs and services in educational technology as chosen by the publication`s readers. In May, Lexia Reading Core5 was named a finalist in the Revere Awards presented by the Association of American Publishers and was also named a winner in the prestigious Academics` Choice Smart Media Awards, a seal of educational quality reserved for the best educational media on the market.

"It is an honor that eSchool News readers and panelists believe as strongly as we do in the value of what Lexia Reading Core5 accomplishes in accelerating students` reading skills development," said Lexia President Nick Gaehde. "We are especially pleased to receive this recognition in the very first year of offering Lexia Reading Core5 to schools and districts."

More than 1,300 educators and administrators from K-12 schools and districts across North America nominated their favorite ed-tech programs or services this past spring; to maintain the integrity of the program, eSchool News did not accept nominations from vendors. Nominating educators were asked to describe how they were using each product to improve teaching, learning or school administration-and to what effect.

"The result is a list of ed-tech programs and services that have proven to be effective," said eSchool News Editorial Director Dennis Pierce. "We hope readers will find this information valuable as they consider what technologies they should use in their own schools."

Launched in July of 2013 by Lexia Learning, a Rosetta Stone® (RST) company, Lexia Reading Core5 accelerates fundamental literacy skills development for students of all abilities through personalized learning paths, providing scaffolding and explicit instruction that supports students if they struggle. Built on 30 years of education research, each of the age-appropriate, skill-specific activities conforms to the most rigorous state standards, including the Common Core. The program simplifies differentiated instruction, enabling at-risk students to close the reading gap more quickly while helping on-level and advanced students to continue to progress.

In addition, the program includes Lexia`s proprietary Assessment Without Testing® technology, which can be used by educators to reduce dependence on traditional testing methods. The embedded assessment technology gathers student performance data without administering a test, using norm-referenced measurements that are correlated to, and highly predictive of, student outcomes on commonly-used measures such as DIBELS® and AIMSweb®. Assessment Without Testing provides teachers and intervention specialists with real-time reports on student progress as well as individualized action plans that recommend targeted instructional strategies and structured lessons, including the minutes-per-week of software usage each student needs to improve performance on grade-level assessments.

The Reader`s Choice Award winners and honorable mentions are recognized in a special feature published in the August 2014 edition of eSchool News and on eSchoolNews.com. This special feature includes comments from readers about why each entry deserves the award. A complete list of this year`s winners can be found at: http://www.eschoolnews.com/rca.
