South Korea systematically breeds and raises dogs solely for the purpose of human consumption. Koreans claim that the more a dog suffers the better its meat tastes -- so many dogs are sadistically made to experience extreme fear and suffering prior to death. "They are electrocuted, hanged, beaten, have their throats slashed, or are boiled or burnt to death," according to KoreanDogs.org.

"By allowing millions of dogs each year to be purposely tortured and killed, the South Korean government is guilty of the most despicable acts of animal cruelty," said LCA Founder and President Chris DeRose. "Shame on them for permitting this barbaric abuse."

An estimated 2.5 million dogs and thousands of cats are cruelly slaughtered and eaten each year in South Korea. In spite of worldwide public outcry upon the government, the powers-that-be continue to turn a blind eye to this practice.

South Korea has the world's 14th-largest economy and is home to global brands such as Samsung, Hyundai, Kia and LG. Additionally, the country is proudly sponsoring the Winter Olympics of 2018, despite the global protest against their dog meat trade.

Last Chance for Animals (LCA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to eliminating animal exploitation through education, investigations, legislation, and public awareness campaigns. Since its formation in 1984, LCA has succeeded as one of the nation's pioneer animal advocacy groups. LCA's educational and public outreach programs have empowered the public to make positive changes for animals in their communities. For more information, please visit: http://www.lcanimal.org.
