Instead of walking in a women's march in the U.S. last weekend, Meghan Markle was fighting for women's rights a little further afield. The Suits actress and United Nation Women's Advocate traveled to India to discuss issues centered on women and young girls in "slum communities," such as education, hygiene and economic development, according to Us Weekly.

Markle fulfilled the mission trip through World Vision, a relief organization for which she's been Global Ambassador since 2016. She's previously worked with the charity to help bring clean water to communities in Africa and traveled to Rwanda to meet local schoolchildren last year.

On her most recent trip, the actress reportedly landed in the region of Delhi on January 17 and was seen landing in Mumbai on Saturday. She had been planning on this visit for the past eight months and did the research on her own, sources told Us. Her trek is rumored to be part of the Rise Up! Daughters of India program, which helps girls stay in school and provides clean washroom facilities. It was created by World Vision Canada. (Markle currently lives in Toronto.)

Markle's devoted volunteer work around the globe draws comparisons to similar projects led by her high-profile boyfriend, Prince Harry. The royal often visits Africa to assist with national parks and support children through his charity Sentebale.
