When observed in visible light, Messier 104 looks flat and brim-like. That flatness, in fact, is the source of its nickname the Sombrero galaxy. But when augmented with an image from the infrared-seeing Spitzer Space Telescope, the huge rim gains a few extra layers and comes to resemble a bulls-eye. That composite image is above.
