Sims Metal Management Celebrates One-Year Anniversary of Recyclarium

Innovative Mobile Education Center Is Visited by Almost 15,000 People in First Year of Operations

NEW YORK, NY --(Marketwired - August 09, 2013) - Sims Metal Management, the world's largest metals and electronics recycler, is celebrating the one-year anniversary of its mobile education center known as the Recyclarium. This 16-foot trailer was designed as a creative learning experience for students -- ranging from third to eighth-grade -- and their families. In the past year the Recyclarium has visited over 35 schools, youth camps and community events in the greater New York area and made an educational impact on nearly 15,000 people.

Inside the Recyclarium, the educational lab consists of five different learning stations each with their own individual theme. The themes cover the lifecycle of products starting from the manufacturing process and concluding with an overview of how the materials are recycled to make new products.

"The Recyclarium has proven to be a valuable and innovative way to create awareness of the lifecycle of products we use every day and reinforce the importance of recycling those goods to save energy and resources," stated Tom Outerbridge, General Manager for Sims Municipal Recycling. "Over the past year it has been rewarding to see the enthusiastic response we receive from schools and the strong demand for the Recyclarium at a wide range of public events."

The Recyclarium was initially created as a pilot program to test exhibits, games and recycling information for the Sims' new Sunset Park Recycling Education Center. Lessons learned from the Recyclarium are being integrated into the design and construction of the new Center.
