Thermal Systems Acquires Skyline Companies to Expand Business

Company is hiring and poised for growth in Western Canada

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - Sep 2, 2015) - Growth is not a word used often in business news today, but Calgary- based Thermal Systems KWC Ltd. ("Thermal"), western Canada's leading building envelope subcontractor, is expanding. The company announced its purchase of Skyline Building Envelope Solutions (CGY) Inc. and Skyline Building Systems Inc. (together "Skyline"), growing its high- quality building envelope business to include flat-roofing and product distribution.

Founded in 1985, Thermal is known for providing innovative building exteriors such as the new combined office/control tower at the Edmonton International Airport. Skyline was established in 1976, and is a respected commercial flat-roofing company, also offering green roof solutions for LEED certified buildings which has become more prominent in recent years. With the purchase of Skyline, Thermal will add flat roofing, green roofs and a distribution arm, featuring DecTec® waterproof and fire resistant surface protection to their offerings.

"There were natural synergies between the two companies," says Thermal's President/ CEO, Trevor Kent, who will continue to lead the new company "We were often providing complementary services on the same flagship construction projects, like the Calgary Airport expansion, The River luxury condos and the Calgary City Centre tower. Being able to offer both cladding and roofing streamlines the construction process for our clients, and makes us more competitive in the market."

Diversity of projects and the ability to quickly respond to market changes are keys to Thermal's long-term success. With expertise in both commercial and industrial sectors, the company is able to move its employees from a commercial project to an industrial and vice versa as required, enabling Thermal to be consistently poised for growth.

The acquisition is also good news on the Alberta job front. All Skyline employees - with the exception of a few members of the senior leadership team - have been kept on by Thermal, and the company is actively hiring new recruits for its many commercial and industrial projects underway. All Thermal employees will move to Skyline's spacious offices in Balzac, Alberta over the next several months, with the renovation and move to be completed by February 2016.

"With over 160 projects in different stages of completion across western Canada right now, we are a good news story amid the current economic situation in Alberta's energy sector," says Kent. A few of the more notable Thermal projects currently underway include the National Music Centre, North Island Hospitals, Winnipeg Convention Centre, Swift Current Long Term Care Centre and Grande Prairie Regional Hospital.

"We know our type of work is out there. Our growth has mostly been limited by our ability to find good people," says Kent. Market conditions always have an impact but diversity allows Thermal to ride out the highs and lows with less of an impact.
