WICHITA, KS--(Marketwired - Jul 25, 2013) - The results are in. More than 10,000 motorists took a stand against foreign oil and declared their personal energy independence this summer by participating in the national "Great American Oil Change for Good!" Facebook sweepstakes (http://www.facebook.com/ecoultraoil) sponsored by Universal Lubricants®, manufacturer and distributor of the high performance Eco Ultra® line of sustainable motor oils and transmission fluids.

The sweepstakes is part of Universal Lubricants' ongoing campaign to educate and encourage consumers to choose eco-friendly motor oil and to recycle used oil to protect the environment and the economy. The company's Eco Ultra products are made from crystal clear, re-refined base oil that's purified and then blended with high performance additives.

Environmentally conscious Californians topped the list of Eco Ultra Oil Facebook fans with Los Angeles coming in as the top city for participants. Chicago and New York City followed close behind. Also, women participants outnumbered men with their eco-concern in a 60 to 40 percent split.

"Spreading the word about sustainable motor oil like Eco Ultra is part of our company's Zero Waste initiative," said Nancy Blanchat, Universal Lubricants' marketing director. "We now have nearly 11,000 Eco Ultra Facebook fans from coast-to-coast who have joined our movement to raise public awareness of the role that sustainable motor oil has in protecting our environment. People are embracing the fact that our closed loop process can turn used motor oil -- a previously non-renewable resource -- into a valuable, sustainable resource that can be used over and over again."

The American Petroleum Institute states that more than 600 million gallons of motor oil is purchased in the U.S. each year, and about half of all motor oil sold is to "do-it-yourself" car owners. Since 95 percent of auto shops and aftermarket parts stores already recycle used motor oil, Universal Lubricants is working to educate everyday motorists on how they can make a significant impact on our environmental footprint.

"Environmentally conscious Eco Ultra Facebook fans can advance the cause by recycling their used motor oil and choosing to use an environmentally friendly alternative," said Blanchat. "It's beginning to happen. People are passing the message on to their friends through social media and turning it into a national movement."

All sweepstakes winners have been notified and prizes, which included a first-place prize of a 16GB Wi-Fi iPad with Retina Display and a number of eco-friendly awards for second and third place winners, have been shipped.
