ZBB Energy Launches Web-Based Application to Configure Solutions for Remote and Intermittent Grid Applications

ZBB and Homer Energy Align to Create a Tool to Size ZBB EnerSystem(TM) Platforms for Specific Project and Location Considerations

MILWAUKEE, WI--(Marketwire - Mar 5, 2013) - ZBB Energy Corporation (NYSE MKT: ZBB), a leading developer of intelligent, renewable energy power platforms and hybrid vehicle control systems, today announced the launch of the first renewable energy, generator set and energy storage project sizing application, which is based on the ZBB EnerSystem™ platform. Powered by HOMER Energy's (Hybrid Optimization of Multiple Energy Resources) world-class optimization analytical engine, the new web-based application is accessible via ZBB Energy's corporate website (www.zbbenergy.com), and is designed to provide optimized economic power system configurations for remote grid, microgrids, and intermittent grid supply locations.

The ZBB EnerSystem, comprised of the ZBB EnerSection™ power and energy control center and ZBB EnerStore™ 50kWh zinc-bromide flow battery modules, provides the basis for configuring platforms, which prioritize all onsite generation sources (AC or DC) directly connected to the shared DC (Direct Current) bus. The ZBB EnerSection provides a completely integrated energy management platform, ready for interconnection to a range of configurable energy sources, essentially providing a 'microgrid in a box' that aligns system design and operations with the HOMER optimization algorithms.

"We developed the application's specification and outputs to make use of the unique electrical architecture of the ZBB EnerSystem. While HOMER has become the world standard for this type of economic modeling and simplified the conceptual design process for these kinds of projects, project developers and engineers have still had to sort out how to integrate the electrical configuration and systems controls for their project," said Dr. Peter Lilienthal, founder and CEO of HOMER Energy. "The ZBB EnerSystem approach is a novel approach that takes a lot of that mystery and complexity out of the design process. We'll continue working with the ZBB team to enhance the user experience with this application as ZBB continues to grow its product offering in markets around the world."

"As renewables become ever more the norm for remote and intermittent grid locations, ZBB Energy will now have a standardized toolkit to model optimal CAPEX expenditures, while at the same time making the best use of our modular integration platform," said Eric Apfelbach, President and CEO of ZBB Energy. "With its open architecture, the ZBB EnerSection gives customers the flexibility to interconnect and optimize their energy resources in any given application and operating environment. HOMER Energy is known and trusted throughout the world for providing reliable tools to analyze and optimize power systems, and we are pleased that they have been able to develop and provide specific capabilities to assist in further developing our markets."
