Holiday Schedule, Walgreen: What to Watch for the Week Ahead

For the week of December 22nd 2014, Wall Street will be on a holiday schedule. Stocks and bonds will stop trading early on Christmas Eve, and all markets will be closed on Christmas Day. On the earnings front, Walgreen Co. (WAG) is the one to watch as it reports fiscal first quarter results before the opening bell on Tuesday. The largest U.S. drugstore chain has been seeing a growth in its daily living business and prescription numbers. Shareholders will also vote on its proposed purchase of the remaining stake in Alliance Boots GmbH for approximately $15.3 billion. On the weekly economic calendar we look for existing home sales, durable goods orders, consumer sentiment, and weekly jobless claims.
