3 Simple Ways to Optimize Mental Stamina

We all want to stay at the top of our game – for ourselves and for our clients. There are some days, though, when our mental stamina just isn’t there. Whether we’re getting ready to finally close a deal after months of talks, presentations and negotiations, or dealing with family issues at home, or simply haven’t taken the necessary timeout to recoup, we still need to find ways to keep up with the demands of our industry. Here are a few tips from the <html><body><strong>Janus Labs BrainWorks</strong></body></html> program that can help you combat brain drain.

Simple Daily Check-Ins

What’s the first thing you do when you get to the office? Your morning probably starts out with a strong cup of coffee and a look at your appointment calendar, followed by some time prospecting on the phone. Before you start making those calls, consider making a short list of things you’re grateful for.

This act should only take 5-10 minutes, and allows you to make a mental check and focus on the positive before speaking to clients.

A Little Movement Goes a Long Way

Whether it’s meeting with clients, working on budgets, responding to emails or attending business meetings, we spend a whole lot of time sitting. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, sitting too long is now the #1 contributor to chronic illness; in other words, “sitting is the new smoking.*”

It’s extremely important to our overall health and well-being to get exercise every day – even if it’s a 30-minute walk around downtown during lunch, that little bit of movement can make a big difference in how sharp you feel. Additionally, the chemicals released in the brain during physical activity can boost mood and stave away fatigue – something that even the most seasoned number-cruncher will experience.

Remembering Your “Why”

One of the first lessons we learn in sales is about finding our “why.” What made you choose your current career path and is that “why” still relevant now?

It’s in your best interest and that of your clients to keep a reminder of why you got into this business. Success looks different to everyone, but that reminder can keep you going during stressful times.

Check Your Mindset Daily

These are just a few ways to take note of your mental stamina. You can find more suggestions on how to keep your acuity in the Janus Labs BrainWorks program. Even if you start with a five-minute mental exercise every day, you’ll slowly start to notice a change in your well-being, and likely, so will your clients.
